Upright Bass The Wagner Electric Upright Bass tackles the biggest problems in electric upright bases in unique fashion. The two most prominant problems in an electric upright bass are physical control of the body, and getting a natural sound. |

Physical Control
Our solution to physical control of the instrument is the fully adjustable leg brace. This is the lightest weight, least obstructive manner in which to replicate the positioning of an acoustic bass to your body. There is a similar optional chest brace (no extra charge) for musicians who want to replicate the feel of the upper bass bout to their chest, in addition to the essential leg contact. Both braces are adjustable for length and angle, allowing the bass to be fitted to an individual's body far better than an acoustic bass. When you approach an acoustic bass, you fit yourself to the instrument. When you approach the Wagner Bass, you fit the instrument to you. This becomes very important to more mature bassists who may have spinal arthritis, impaired shoulders, or other limitations which restrict how long they can comfortably stand bent around the instrument. To all bassists this adjustability easily allows greater dexterity and stage mobility. The small leg and chest braces offer little impairment to walking around with the bass, even picking it up into the "guitar" position and playing while moving. The adjustable end pin works just like a normal bass and we include an endpin floor pad to prevent sliding. The endpin will also accept standard slip on pads designed for walking canes, easily replaceable from any drugstore |

Natural Tone
We achieve a naturalness of tone by using a large scale, semi-flexible piezo pickup. The large diameter of our piezo increases the response to low tones. The base of our piezo is milled very thin to further increase flex, broadening the range of response even more. The piezo is mounted into our bridge under a precise angle and pressure which optimizes both amplitude and tone so that we get a very high signal to noise ratio. Our bridge pickup works well as a passive pickup, not requiring further preamplification, and we then run this very clear and hot signal into an on-board three band active E.Q. with volume, so that you may quickly adjust the tone and volume over a broad range of response. The end affect is that when you pluck or bow the low E, you really get that tone, not just a reasonably close blur. Our 5-string gives you a real low C, not just a thump somewhere near the bottom. Other considerations we address include a lessened curvature of the bridge and fingerboard to optimize pluck and slap without sacrificing bowing. The string action is set moderately low, and the bridge is easily removable for further cutting to lower action. The tailpiece wire passes through a tail guide and saddle so that the tailpiece stays in place when the strings are slackened or removed for maintenance or replacement. The Wagner Bass is designed for great flexibility not only in handling and playing. Our bass is designed to accommodate future innovations in electronics. The electronics compartment is ample in size, and the bridge is easily removable and replaceable. The finish is a standard satin varnish that helps conceal stains, scratches, and smears, and is easily repairable. The one piece core of the bass is of solid oak for strength, with multiple laminations of poplar for lighter weight. There is no neck-joint, the body and neck are one continuous piece for greater strength and resistance to heat and stress damage. Your Wagner Bass will last a long time, and will be able to keep up with changes in technology. |
